About the Consortium

The Middle East Studies Consortium was established in 2008 to enhance Middle Eastern Studies in the Silicon Valley and has the support of a Department of Eductaion Title VI grant. working collaboratively, three local insitutions will improve and enhance their language and culture programs and highlight the important connections between the Silicon Valley and the Middle East through its large diaspora communities. Our mission as a consortium is to build a regional network of scholars, teachers, and students and to combine our institutional expertise and resources to create a program of MIddle East Studies for the 21st century. By drawing on existing major and minor programs and interdisciplinary approaches, the Consortium seeks to introdcue undergraduates to a vast and rich region and to foster a new generation of scholars, experts, and students.

The consortium will allocate and leverage resource to developing new courses on the study of Middle East, enhancing current curriculum, acquiring new library resources, and developing an innovative program of research that addresses the unique diaspora communities of the South Bay including Afghan, Arab, Iranian, and Israeli Americans.
